The Mohamaya Lake is spread over an area of ​​11 square kilometers at the foot of the hill, just two kilometers away from Thakurdighi Bazar in Mirsharai’s Durgapur Union.

The natural beauty of the Mohamaya Lake is simply outstanding! The lake itself is surrounded by hilly terrain, while its crystal clear water will surely impress you to get a quick bath which will definitely add some thrilling experiences. Beside the gurgling water of the lake and the hills, there are mountain caves, rubber dams and endlessly beautiful springs. Apart from going around the lake by boat, you can soak your body and mind in the cool water of the spring coming down the hill.

There are few things to do at Mohamaya lake and its surroundings along with the Mohamaya Eco Park when you visit the place:

  • Kayaking at Mohamaya Lake – To experience the fun of kayaking, you can roam around 8 km in Mohamaya Lake. Mohamaya Kayaking Point (MKP) organizes it. This will cost only BDT 300 per hour. The cost is even lower for students. Only BDT 200 but students must show their ID card. 2 people can ride in one kayak. Kayaking is available from 9 am to 5:30 pm. There will be life jackets for everyone, so even those who can’t swim can go kayaking.
  • CampingMohamaya Kayaking Point (MKP) also arranges camping in nearby area. Camping is available from 6 pm till 7 am next day. 4 to 30 people can accommodate in a tent, though at least 4 persons required to rent a tent. Pre-booking is must and you have to send BDT 500 beforehand. Each person will be charged BDT 600 per night stay.
    • Please be informed that Kayaking and boat riding are not included with the camping package, you need to pay separately for each ride.
    • The typical inclusions of packages include Tent, Hammock, Camp Firing, Barbecue and Paratha, Dinner (Rice, Cocktail, and Chicken), Breakfast (Paratha, Fried Eggs, Legumes, Fried Potatoes and Tea).
    • The authority does not allow girls/women to take part in camping
  • Boat Riding – There are engine boats to explore the lake. A boat capable of carrying 8-10 people will tour for an hour with fountains in the vicinity and the fare is BDT 800-1000. Renting an engine boat that can carry 15-20 people will cost BDT 1200-1500 for one hour.

The Mohamaya Lake and Eco Park is climatically comfortable throughout the year, and is a year-round destination for the tourists. So, anyone can travel there any time of the year. Yet, make your plan according to the weather. In the dry season (March-April), there might be excessive heat during the day time, and there is a very much probability that you will get dehydrated. You must have drinking water with you to keep yourself hydrated. Though, that time you will get a good view of the lake.

Winter is the best time for Kayaking, Boat Riding and Hiking, as the weather will be very comfortable and you won’t get tired soon. The lake and the waterfalls look fantastic in the Rainy Season, and you will have a mind blowing view of the place.

Visiting Mohamaya Lake is not hard. From any part of the country you want to come, first you have to come to Thakurdighi Bazaar at Mirsharai upazila in Chattogram (previously known as Chittagong) district.

Followings are the ways to reach Thakurdighi Bazaar from around the country:

By Bus       

From Dhaka: You can go to Thakurdighi Bazaar in Mirsharai by taking any bus from Dhaka’s Kamalapur, Kalabagan, Fakirapul, Arambag, Technical, Gabtoli, Uttara, Nodda etc. to Chattogram. Non AC bus fare is BDT 550-700. AC bus fare is BDT 900-2000. Take the bus of your choice and get down at Thakurdighi Bazaar before Mirsharai. Besides, from Syedabad bus stand, you have to take bus to Feni, then take local bus and go to Thakurdighi Bazar for BDT 50-60.From Chattogram: Buses, CNG, autorickshaws and minivans/microbuses to Mirsharai are available from Motherbari and Kadamtoli bus stops. Moreover, from Alankar City Gate of Chattogram, you can go to ThakurDighi of Mirsharai Police Station by taking some local buses for a fare below BDT 100.              

You will also get buses from other major districts; what you need is to get down at Thakurdighi.

By Train

Train service is available only from Dhaka and Sylhet. You can take any Chattogram-bound intercity or mail train from those cities and get down at Feni station. Then take local bus and reach your destination.

By Air

Then go to Motherbari or Kadamtoli bus terminal. Or, you can also go to Alankar City Gate, take a bus to Mirsharai.

From the Dhaka-Chattogram highway, take rickshaw/auto/cng (BDT 15/20 per person, while BDT 100 approx. for reserved) and go through the Mohamaya Rubber Dam road. This road goes straight to the eco park and lake area. There is a ticketing system to enter the region. Entry ticket fee for each person is BDT 20/30. Buy a ticket and enter the park. You will get an astonishing view of various trees and plants while moving forward. Walk straight from the gate and you will reach direct to the lakeside.

There is no food service available in the park. Thus, you have to bring your own food. There are small hotels in Thakurdighi bazaar where you can eat local food. If you go to Mirsharai and Shitakunda bazaar, you will find some more quality food hotels from where you can eat.

There is no good accommodation at Mirsharai as well, you may find some budget hotels in Shitakunda.

But if you want to stay somewhere better, you should move to Chattogram (Chittagong). It will take about 1 hour 30 minutes to go from Mirsharai to reach the port city. You will find hotels of good quality at Alangkar Junction. Or there are different quality hotels in Station Road area of ​​Chattogram New Market, you can spend the night in any hotel of your choice.

Like other Bangladesh tourist attractions, Chattogram district is full of natural beauty. Here nature pours out all the beauty and decorates herself.
